I earned my CMA accounting designation in 2003 while I was working with KPMG owner managed business group here in Victoria. Later I went back to the provincial government and then opened my own bookkeeping and accounting firm. I sold that firm in 2010 when my daughter won a competitive process to attend a dramatic arts school in Ottawa. While in Ottawa, I was a full time controller for two different businesses. All in, I have 20 years experience working with small and medium sized business all across Canada. I have a unique understanding of small business combined with experiences in public practice and government.
I see myself as one of the many partners in your business. In the same vein as "It takes a village to raise a child" I believe it takes a group of dedicated professionals to support a growing business. I work closely with you, your year end tax accountant, lawyers, bankers and staff to help your business become what you want it to become.

I have experience with a wide variety of businesses including investment holdings companies, professionals such as doctors and lawyers, trades, retail and services (see a complete list here). I have set up many systems, so entrepreneurs are able to start taking care of their records on their own and then I help them transition to a managed solution. I have a strong background in software implementation and testing, payroll, general ledger, complex multi-year, mutli account reconciliations and year end preparation (see a complete list here). As an entrepreneur myself, I have the ability to communicate with both the business owner and the accountant.
On a more personal note, I believe in the axiom that reading is the only way to install new software in the mind so I read a lot. I love sci-fi movies and TV shows. I volunteer in the community - currently providing my skills pro bono to an heritage preservation organization. I have two grown children who I couldn't be more proud of. I'm a dog lover and I enjoy writing and decorating. I've lived in Victoria for 25 years and I am very glad to be here. As much as I miss Nova Scotia, the weather can't be beat!
